Trigger Finger Surgery in Dayton, OH
Trigger finger syndrome is a common condition among patients in Dayton, Centerville, Troy, and Beavercreek, OH. Surgery is often the only form of relief and can be performed by one of the talented, board-certified surgeons here at Miami Valley Plastic Surgeons.
What Is Trigger Finger Surgery?
Trigger finger is a painful condition in which the fingers lock or catch as you are bending or straightening them. It occurs whenever the pulleys that hold tendons in the fingers close to the bone become too thick. When this happens, the tendons cannot glide as they should, making the normal movement of the fingers difficult. Trigger finger surgery opens the pulleys of the fingers to allow a greater range of motion.
Benefits of Trigger Finger Surgery
Trigger finger can make it difficult for people to perform certain motions with their fingers. Surgery can allow for the normal use of the fingers, while at the same time eliminating swelling, discomfort, and the clicking or popping noise that is often heard when bending the fingers.
Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Trigger Finger Surgery?
If your fingers regularly get stuck in one position or your daily activities are severely hampered because of your pain, it might be time to think about trigger finger surgery.
What do I Need to do Before Trigger Finger Surgery?
Stop taking any medications, including those to manage pain, in the period leading up to your surgery. You should also stop smoking and refrain from using alcohol.
What Should I Expect on the Day of my Trigger Finger Surgery?
You will be given an injection containing local anesthesia into the palm of your hand or your wrist. This will ensure you do not feel anything as one of our board-certified surgeons makes a small incision in your palm. The incision allows access to the tendon sheath tunnel, which is cut to allow greater movement. Your incision is then stitched up and bandaged, at which time you are able to return home.
How Long Does it Take to Perform Trigger Finger Surgery?
Typically about an hour or so, including prep time.
Will I Have Scars After Getting Trigger Finger Surgery?
Visible scars are very possible after hand surgery; however, a scar revision is typically very successful when it comes to reducing or eliminating those scars.
When Will I See the Results?
Right away, you will notice that you no longer hear a clicking or popping sound when you bend your finger. However, it may take a few weeks for you to notice that your finger glides smoothly whenever you bend and straighten it.
How Long Will the Results of Trigger Finger Surgery Last?
Trigger finger surgery is typically a one-time occurrence; however, it is possible to experience trigger finger in the future if a great deal of scar tissue develops.
Additional Procedures to Enhance Your Trigger Finger Surgery Results
If your hands are also thin and wrinkled, you may want to consider a fat transfer and injection procedure to help fill them out.
How Much Does Trigger Finger Surgery Cost in Dayton?
Because you may have different needs than any other patient, we will not be able to discuss the exact cost with you until after your consultation. Cash, personal checks, and credit cards are always accepted for any of the procedures we offer, and many of our patients will also qualify for low-interest financing.
