The laser vein therapy procedure uses a laser to send bursts of light through your skin and into your vein, causing the vein to fade. Laser vein therapy is performed by either board-certified plastic and hand surgeon, Dr. Frank Troha, Dr. Thaddeus P. O’Neill, or physician assistant, Nichole R. Gill. We perform this therapy in the comfort of our office. Laser vein therapy is quick and easy to perform. We use a device called the Erbium laser; this laser is commonly used for anti-aging treatments such as spider veins, sun or brown spots, wrinkles, and even tattoo removal. The Erbium laser penetrates the skin so the tissue can absorb the energy, without removing the top layer of skin. This “non-ablative” laser works without cutting or damaging the skin because it specifically targets the cells you are treating with less collateral damage than other lasers. Laser vein therapy is effective for both men and women who are suffering from facial spider veins. No anesthesia is necessary for laser vein therapy. However, a topical numbing treatment can be applied to help minimize any discomfort.

The Erbium laser uses fractional resurfacing technology, where portions of the skin receive the laser light, these bursts of light enter through your skin and into your vein, causing the veins to fade. Depending on the size of the area that needs to be treated, you may need three to five treatments spaced apart by three to five weeks. Each of these treatments delivers a series of microscopic laser bursts which fade the facial spider veins while preserving the areas of unaffected, healthy skin. During your consultation, Dr. Troha, Dr. O’Neill, or Nichole Gill PA-C, will discuss your unique treatment schedule and inform you of what to expect after the procedure is completed.

Laser vein therapy is non-ablative and requires minimal downtime. The healing process varies by patient and depends on the size of the area that will need treatment. Generally, recovery time is three to five days, but Dr. Troha, Dr. O’Neill, or Nichole Gill PA-C will discuss your unique situation with you during your consultation.
