Body Lift

Many of our patients have more than one problem area in the lower body that they would like to firm and tone. These individuals often request a body lift performed by one of the board-certified cosmetic surgeons here at Miami Valley Plastic Surgeons, serving patients in Dayton, Centerville, Springfield, Troy, and other nearby areas in Ohio.

A body lift is a procedure that simultaneously eliminates sagging skin and excess tissue from the lower abdominals, buttocks, hips, thighs, and groin. Performed under general anesthesia, it is a popular option for anyone who has lost a significant amount of weight and finds that their skin does not conform to their new body contours.

The benefits of a body lift are:

A body lift tightens more than one area at once; however, our board-certified surgeons are only able to remove a certain amount of tissue from each location due to time constraints and other factors. As such, you could need separate procedures such as a tummy tuck or thigh lift if you have an excessive amount of skin that needs tightening. On the other hand, if you require only a moderate amount of reshaping, a body lift could be a perfect fit for you.

You should be at or near your ideal weight before undergoing a body lift. Blood work could also be needed to ensure you do not have any medical complications that might interfere with anesthesia.

A body lift requires general anesthesia, which may be administered through an IV or syringe. One of our board-certified surgeons will make two circumferential incisions around your body. The first will be just below your naval, over top of your hip bones, and just above your buttocks. The other will extend from just above the pubic hair line along the lower hips and right below the buttocks. These incisions will allow the doctor to access skin and muscle tissues, pulling them taught and trimming any excess away.

Your body lift procedure can take anywhere from two to four hours.

Since a body lift encompasses a wide area, you will naturally feel a great deal of tenderness and soreness in your lower body. You may need to sit on a pillow for a few days and avoid bending, twisting, or turning. Any discomfort you experience can be managed with an over-the-counter medication such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

Because a body lift requires very long incisions, scarring is very likely. However, most patients find that their scars are easily hidden by their clothing and are not visible even when wearing a bathing suit.

The results of a body lift are noticed right away, and you may also expect continued improvement over the next few months.

The results of a body lift are permanent, but may nonetheless be altered by future weight gain.

If you also have a great deal of fat in any of your problem areas, liposuction could be needed in order to provide you with more pleasing contours.

Because you may have different needs than any other patient, we will not be able to discuss the exact cost with you until after your consultation. Cash, personal checks, and credit cards are always accepted for any of the procedures we offer, and many of our patients will also qualify for low-interest financing.
