Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)

WHY BRACHIOPLASTY (ARM LIFT)

The triceps muscles located on the back of the arm are one of the most difficult areas of the body to tone. No matter how many dips you do, it seems as though it is impossible to get rid of those “bat wings.” Brachioplasty is one option used by patients in Dayton, Centerville, Troy, Miamisburg, and other nearby areas in Ohio to provide a more toned appearance. The board-certified cosmetic surgeons at Miami Valley Plastic Surgeons are proud to offer brachioplasty (arm lift) procedures to all their patients.

FAQs

Sometimes referred to as an arm lift, brachioplasty surgery is designed to eliminate sagging skin that hangs below the upper arm when it is fully extended. It removes excess tissue then tightens it to form more pleasing contours, giving the upper arm a more muscular appearance.

Brachioplasty often does what exercise alone cannot, which is firm the upper arm so that skin does not flap when you are waving or lifting your arms up and down.

If you have tried unsuccessfully to tone your triceps muscles, you could be a good candidate for an arm lift. You may also desire this surgery if you have lost more than 100 pounds. Extreme weight gain may cause your skin to stretch, leaving you with arms that are larger in circumference than they should be, even after you have gotten rid of those unwanted pounds.

Schedule your activities so that you will not be performing any heavy lifting or repetitive motions with your arms for two to four weeks following surgery.

The first step will involve checking your vital signs and reviewing your medical chart. Next, one of our board-certified physicians will confirm your surgery goals, carefully marking the area of your arm where tissue is to be removed. You will be given local or twilight anesthesia to numb the area. While you recline comfortably in a chair, your physician will make the necessary incisions, then tighten and trim skin, fat, and muscle.

The duration of brachioplasty surgery varies from patient to patient but generally takes between one and three hours.

There may be some light bruising or swelling near your incision sites. You might also find it difficult to lift heavy objects or perform pushing or pulling motions. Your symptoms will gradually improve each day, and you should be back to normal within two to three weeks.

Unfortunately, one of the downsides to brachioplasty is that there is often a visible scar running down the back of the arms. Even so, those who have lost a significant amount of weight tend to find this scar more desirable than the loose, sagging skin brought about by shedding excess pounds.

One of the biggest benefits to brachioplasty is the fact that results are noticed almost immediately.

So long as you maintain your ideal weight, the results from your arm lift can last a lifetime.

A good number of our patients who choose brachioplasty also have loose, sagging skin on the buttocks, thighs, and lower abs, and therefore desire a body lift to help them firm and tighten it.

Because you may have different needs than any other patient, we will not be able to discuss the exact cost with you until after your consultation. Cash, personal checks, and credit cards are always accepted for any of the procedures we offer, and many of our patients will also qualify for low-interest financing.
