Body Lift in Dayton, OH
Many of our patients have more than one problem area in the lower body that they would like to firm and tone. These individuals often request a body lift performed by one of the board-certified cosmetic surgeons here at Miami Valley Plastic Surgeons, serving patients in Dayton, Centerville, Springfield, Troy, and other nearby areas in Ohio.
What Is a Body Lift?
A body lift is a procedure that simultaneously eliminates sagging skin and excess tissue from the lower abdominals, buttocks, hips, thighs, and groin. Performed under general anesthesia, it is a popular option for anyone who has lost a significant amount of weight and finds that their skin does not conform to their new body contours.
Benefits of a Body Lift
The benefits of a body lift are:
- The ability to trim and tone more than one problem area in a single procedure
- Removing excess skin that has stretched after gaining and then losing a great deal of weight
- Restoring self-confidence and providing a better body image
Who Is the Ideal Candidate for a Body Lift?
A body lift tightens more than one area at once; however, our board-certified surgeons are only able to remove a certain amount of tissue from each location due to time constraints and other factors. As such, you could need separate procedures such as a tummy tuck or thigh lift if you have an excessive amount of skin that needs tightening. On the other hand, if you require only a moderate amount of reshaping, a body lift could be a perfect fit for you.
What do I Need to do Before a Body Lift?
You should be at or near your ideal weight before undergoing a body lift. Blood work could also be needed to ensure you do not have any medical complications that might interfere with anesthesia.
Your body lift could require an overnight stay in the hospital. If this is the case, pack a bag with loose, comfortable clothing to wear home. On the morning of your appointment, shower with antibacterial soap, but do not apply lotion, powder, or perfume to your lower body.
What Should I Expect on the Day of my Body Lift?
A body lift requires general anesthesia, which may be administered through an IV or syringe. One of our board-certified surgeons will make two circumferential incisions around your body. The first will be just below your naval, over top of your hip bones, and just above your buttocks. The other will extend from just above the pubic hair line along the lower hips and right below the buttocks. These incisions will allow the doctor to access skin and muscle tissues, pulling them taught and trimming any excess away.
How Long Does it Take to Perform a Body Lift?
Your body lift procedure can take anywhere from two to four hours.
What to Expect After a Body Lift
Since a body lift encompasses a wide area, you will naturally feel a great deal of tenderness and soreness in your lower body. You may need to sit on a pillow for a few days and avoid bending, twisting, or turning. Any discomfort you experience can be managed with an over-the-counter medication such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
Will I Have Scars After Getting a Body Lift?
Because a body lift requires very long incisions, scarring is very likely. However, most patients find that their scars are easily hidden by their clothing and are not visible even when wearing a bathing suit.
When Will I See the Results?
The results of a body lift are noticed right away, and you may also expect continued improvement over the next few months.
How Long Will the Results of a Body Lift Last?
The results of a body lift are permanent, but may nonetheless be altered by future weight gain.
Additional Procedures to Enhance Your Body Lift Results
If you also have a great deal of fat in any of your problem areas, liposuction could be needed in order to provide you with more pleasing contours.
