Rhinoplasty in Dayton, OH
A disfigured nose can make people in Dayton, Centerville, Kettering, and other areas in Ohio self-conscious. Rhinoplasty performed by one of the professional, board-certified physicians at Miami Valley Plastic Surgeons can help these individuals look better and feel good about themselves again.
What Is Rhinoplasty?
Sometimes referred to as a “nose job”, rhinoplasty is any surgery that alters the appearance of the nose. It may involve a variety of techniques that will:
- Change the size of the nose
- Alter the way the nose protrudes from the face
- Correct deformities
- Eliminate bumps in the bridge
Benefits of a Rhinoplasty
A poorly shaped nose not only gives people an awkward appearance in many cases, it also makes breathing difficult. As such, many people who undergo a nose job find they no longer need breathing apparatuses or medication to help them breathe normally. Others may simply benefit from the fact that they are eliminating an unsightly nose that may cause them a great deal of embarrassment.
Who Is the Ideal Candidate for a Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty surgery is not typically performed on children, as the nose is still growing until an individual reaches adulthood. Those over 18 who are healthy enough to receive anesthesia can easily undergo a nose job.
What do I Need to do Before a Rhinoplasty?
Depending upon the nature of your reconstruction, X-rays could be needed to help one of our surgeons develop the right technique. Laboratory blood testing is typically required as well to determine if you have any underlying conditions that might prohibit you from receiving anesthesia.
What Should I Expect on the Day of my Rhinoplasty?
You should remove any nose piercings prior to coming in for your appointment. A surgeon will administer general anesthesia so that you sleep lightly throughout your procedure. The exact technique required will determine what happens next and will be discussed with you in greater detail during your consultation.
Following surgery, you will be monitored in one of our recovery rooms for a couple of hours. Once the effects of anesthesia have worn off, you may be permitted to leave if your procedure was relatively minor. If so, you will need to have someone drive you home. For more extensive procedures, an overnight stay in the hospital could be required. Whether your procedure is performed on an in-patient or out-patient basis will be determined during your consultation as well.
How Long Does it Take to Perform Rhinoplasty?
Some procedures can be performed in about two hours, while others could take as long as four hours.
What to Expect After a Rhinoplasty
You could have splints, gauze bandages, or “packing” material placed inside your nose. This may feel uncomfortable to you, but it is important you do not disturb these things. Blowing your nose is not recommended for a few days afterwards, meaning you may feel slightly stuffy.
Will I Have Scars After Getting Rhinoplasty?
No, any incisions are well hidden inside the nose.
When Will I See the Results?
It takes people a little longer to recover from rhinoplasty surgery than from other cosmetic procedures. You will likely notice some improvement once your bandages and/or splints are removed. Further results will be noticed over the next few weeks as swelling subsides and the cartilage inside your nose returns to normal.
How Long Will the Results of a Rhinoplasty Last?
Rhinoplasty provides permanent benefits, although it will not prevent future trauma from disfiguring your nose.
Additional Procedures to Enhance Your Rhinoplasty Results
To help your face look its best, you may want to consider a facelift, mini facelift, or lip augmentation following rhinoplasty.
