Rhinoplasty
WHY RHINOPLASTY
A disfigured nose can make people in Dayton, Centerville, Kettering, and other areas in Ohio self-conscious. Rhinoplasty performed by one of the professional, board-certified physicians at Miami Valley Plastic Surgeons can help these individuals look better and feel good about themselves again.
Sometimes referred to as a “nose job”, rhinoplasty is any surgery that alters the appearance of the nose. It may involve a variety of techniques that will:
A poorly shaped nose not only gives people an awkward appearance in many cases, it also makes breathing difficult. As such, many people who undergo a nose job find they no longer need breathing apparatuses or medication to help them breathe normally. Others may simply benefit from the fact that they are eliminating an unsightly nose that may cause them a great deal of embarrassment.
Rhinoplasty surgery is not typically performed on children, as the nose is still growing until an individual reaches adulthood. Those over 18 who are healthy enough to receive anesthesia can easily undergo a nose job.
Depending upon the nature of your reconstruction, X-rays could be needed to help one of our surgeons develop the right technique. Laboratory blood testing is typically required as well to determine if you have any underlying conditions that might prohibit you from receiving anesthesia.
You should remove any nose piercings prior to coming in for your appointment. A surgeon will administer general anesthesia so that you sleep lightly throughout your procedure. The exact technique required will determine what happens next and will be discussed with you in greater detail during your consultation.
Some procedures can be performed in about two hours, while others could take as long as four hours.
You could have splints, gauze bandages, or “packing” material placed inside your nose. This may feel uncomfortable to you, but it is important you do not disturb these things. Blowing your nose is not recommended for a few days afterwards, meaning you may feel slightly stuffy.
No, any incisions are well hidden inside the nose.
It takes people a little longer to recover from rhinoplasty surgery than from other cosmetic procedures. You will likely notice some improvement once your bandages and/or splints are removed. Further results will be noticed over the next few weeks as swelling subsides and the cartilage inside your nose returns to normal.
Rhinoplasty provides permanent benefits, although it will not prevent future trauma from disfiguring your nose.
To help your face look its best, you may want to consider a facelift, mini facelift, or lip augmentation following rhinoplasty.
Because you may have different needs than any other patient, we will not be able to discuss the exact cost with you until after your consultation.
