Mole Removal in Dayton, OH
Almost everyone has moles on his or her body, most of which are harmless. However, some people are embarrassed by their moles, and might even worry about them developing into skin cancer. These individuals are good candidates for mole removal performed by one of the board-certified physicians at Miami Valley Plastic Surgeons, serving patients in Troy, Kettering, Dayton, Huber Heights, and Centerville, OH.
What Is Mole Removal?
Mole removal is a procedure whereby moles, raised pigmented bumps on the skin, are eliminated. This can be performed in one of the following manners:
- Excision, which involves cutting the mole off
- Shaving, a procedure that involves “slicing” the mole away from the top layer of skin
- Cryosurgery, the use of liquid nitrogen to “freeze” away the mole
- Electrosurgery, which requires an electrical current be used to “burn” away the mole
Benefits of Mole Removal
The types of mole removal we offer are safe, effective and performed on an outpatient basis. Our Dayton area patients who undergo mole removal often notice these benefits as well:
- Feeling less self-conscious about their appearance, particularly if their mole was in a very obvious location
- No more discomfort due to a mole rubbing against their clothing
- Decreased fear of contracting skin cancer
Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Mole Removal?
You may want to consider mole removal if:
- The offending mole is larger than the size of a pencil eraser
- Your clothing regularly rubs against the mole, causing you discomfort
- Skin cancer runs in your family
- You are embarrassed by your mole and go to great lengths to cover it up
What do I Need to do Before Mole Removal?
Depending upon your mole’s characteristics, a biopsy could also be needed to check for skin cancer.
What Should I Expect on the Day of my Mole Removal?
The exact procedure will be explained to you in greater detail during your consultation.
How Long Does it Take to Perform Mole Removal?
Generally between 30 and 45 minutes.
What to Expect After a Mole Removal Procedure
The area where the mole is removed will be covered with a bandage, which must remain in place for 10 to 14 days to allow time for healing. During this time, it is very important to keep that area as clean and dry as possible.
Will I Have Scars After Getting a Mole Removal?
Some scars are possible, but not likely.
When Will I See the Results?
You will notice that your mole is gone immediately, but you will not see the real difference until after your bandage is removed.
How Long Will the Results of a Mole Removal Last?
Most mole removal procedures provide permanent results. Even so, a new mole sometimes reappears in the same spot several months or even years later and it is virtually impossible to predict when or if this might happen.
Additional Procedures to Enhance Your Mole Removal Results
If you are also bothered by unusual pigmentations in your skin, you might want to consider laser resurfacing to help even out your skin tone.
How Much Does Mole Removal Cost in Dayton?
Because you may have different needs than any other patient, we will not be able to discuss the exact cost with you until after your consultation. Cash, personal checks, and credit cards are always accepted for any of the procedures we offer, and many of our patients will also qualify for low-interest financing.
